About

Asthma is a disease that affects your airways. Asthma causes the inside walls of your airways to become swollen and very sensitive. When the airways are irritated, they narrow and less air gets to your lung tissue. UW Asthma, Allergy and Pulmonary Research conducts studies in both children and adults that may help make medication available that could improve lives. Some special areas of interest for our research studies are: • Origin of asthma in children and adults • How colds affect asthma • Uncontrolled or severe asthma • Exercise induced asthma • The role of genetics in asthma • Allergies • Asthma related sleep problems and disorders • Treatment of asthma in children
