Lexington Medical Center Department of Public Safety is an accredited law enforcement agency in West Columbia, South Carolina commissioned to provide police services to hospitals operated by the Lexington County Health Services District. In 2006, Lexington Medical Center became the first hospital in South Carolina to create its police department. Police officers are trained at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy to become Class I law enforcement officers. These officers have the authority to carry weapons, issue citations and make arrests similar to any other police officer or county deputy.
