William Striebel recognized the need for a local physician and discussed the issue with a group of concerned community members: Emil Zueger, a pharmacist; Chris Tarpo, the mayor; and Ronald Schoch. He suggested that they reach out to physicians in Hettinger to inquire if they would be willing to provide medical services in their area. The physicians in Hettinger were interested in helping their neighbors and established an outreach clinic in 1969. Due to a shortage of doctors in 1971, the clinic had to be temporarily closed. However, in March of 1973, with the addition of Dr. Robert Weir to the staff, the clinic was able to reopen.
