For any condition requiring immediate medical attention from a specially trained emergency medical team, the Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Emergency Department (ED) doors are always open. Emergency care is a step up in urgency from Walk-In Care. Approximately 35,000 people a year (or 100 people each day) seek medical treatment in our Emergency Department. Getting the right care at the right time is very important during an emergency. People with serious illnesses and injuries, such as severe pain, bleeding, a high fever, or people who are showing symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, should not hesitate to call 9-1-1 and come to the Emergency Department right away.
